My First Twin Newborn Session | one-month-old babies
I recently had my first twin newborn photoshoot — two sweet baby girls who were one month old on the day of the session.
Both girls were wide awake for most of the time. No deep sleep, no sleepy posing (at least not right away). But honestly? That made the session feel even more special.
Awake babies = real moments
People often expect newborn photography to mean perfectly posed, sleeping babies — and yes, those photos are beautiful. But when babies are awake, there’s a whole different kind of magic.
Since the girls weren’t sleepy, I focused on something just as meaningful: their connection with their parents. I took a lot of photos with mom’s and dad’s hands — holding them, soothing them, just being close.
Then finally… they slept
Right at the end of the session, the girls slowly drifted off. First one, then the other. I had a short window, maybe 15-20 minutes, but it was enough to capture those soft, dreamy, sleeping twin portraits.
Snuggled up side by side, wrapped in soft blankets — it was the perfect calm ending to a very full session.
If you’re planning a twin newborn photoshoot…
Here are a few things this session reminded me of — and what I always tell my clients:
Your babies don’t have to be brand new. These girls were one month old — and the photos turned out beautifully.
Awake is okay. Really. You don’t need sleeping babies to create meaningful, emotional images.
Parents are part of the story. Your hands, your presence, your love — they matter just as much as your babies do in these photos.
Final thoughts
This session wasn’t “perfect.” It was real. And sometimes that’s even better.
If you’re expecting twins — or your little ones are already here — and you want a natural, relaxed newborn session that captures your family just as you are, I’d love to photograph it. Let’s create something beautiful together.
